Here lay the remains of the largest Roman military camp in the region. Mogorjelo was built in the late 3rd century, and the other two basilicas in the 5th century. Villa Rustica is restored, and since 1903, was opened for visitors. In close vicinity is situated the Paddock Club Vranac which offers the possibility of renting or leasing horses and carriages.
After visiting Mogorjelo, you can continue to travel to Gabela, which is a rich archaeological site on the right bank of the Neretva river, 5 km south of Čapljina. An interesting story of this region is related to the claim of the Mexican Roberto Salinas Price that the old town of Gabela is the capital city of Troy.
